HD Hyundai Electric Accelerates European Expansion with Consecutive Orders for Eco-Friendly High Voltage Circuit Breakers
Supply of High Voltage Circuit Breakers to Finnish EPC Firm
First Independently Developed in South Korea, Aggressive Expansion in European Market
Global Circuit Breaker Market to Reach $42.9 Billion by 2032
HD Hyundai Electric is accelerating its efforts to expand in the European market by signing a contract to supply eco-friendly high voltage circuit breakers in Northern Europe.
HD Hyundai Electric, an affiliate specializing in power equipment and energy solutions under HD Hyundai, announced on the 16th that it recently signed a supply contract with a Finnish EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) specialist company for 14 units of 145kV SF6 (sulfur hexafluoride)-Free high voltage circuit breakers. This contract marks the company’s second order, following one in Sweden in May.
The 145kV SF6-Free high voltage circuit breakers covered by this contract are eco-friendly products that do not use any SF6. They were independently developed by HD Hyundai Electric, marking a first in South Korea. SF6 has a global warming potential 23,500 times that of carbon dioxide.

Due to the recent increase in global electricity demand, expanded investments in transmission and distribution networks, and the spread of smart grids, demand for circuit breakers, along with transformers, has been steadily rising.
According to market research firm Fortune Business Insights, the global circuit breaker market is expected to grow from approximately $22.4 billion in 2024 to about $42.9 billion by 2032. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during this period is projected to be around 8.37%.
In Europe, demand for eco-friendly high voltage circuit breakers is expanding due to strengthened international environmental regulations and policies promoting renewable energy. In South Korea, Korea Electric Power Corporation has also switched to 170kV SF6-Free high voltage circuit breakers for new substations starting this year.
A representative from HD Hyundai Electric stated, "Thanks to a favorable market environment, both sales and order backlog in the high voltage circuit breaker sector are increasing. We will continue to maintain a stable high voltage circuit breaker business in established markets such as the Middle East and the United States, while intensifying our efforts to target the eco-friendly high voltage circuit breaker market centered on Europe."
