A concrete plan has been established to resolve the pigsty odor issue that residents of Samdu-ri, Gunoe-myeon, Wando County, Jeonnam Province have endured for over two years.
Shin Euijun, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea, Wando 2), announced on September 15 that he recently led an on-site meeting to address complaints about pigsty odor, resulting in an agreement on the division of roles between Jeonnam Province, Wando County, and local residents.

View original imageThe meeting was attended by officials from the Livestock Policy Division of Jeonnam Province, the Agriculture and Livestock Division of Wando County, the head of Gunoe-myeon, other relevant public officials, and representatives of the residents. Wando County decided to pursue the purchase and demolition of the pigsty through negotiations with the business owner as a fundamental solution to the problem. The county plans to secure next year's budget and carry out an appraisal, as well as proceed with follow-up steps in stages.
Jeonnam Province promised to implement immediately applicable odor reduction measures to alleviate residents' discomfort while the county's long-term procedures are underway.
Assemblyman Shin stated, "I determined that the residents' suffering could no longer be neglected, so I went on-site and coordinated efforts for Jeonnam Province and Wando County to work together," adding, "We have prepared both immediate actions and fundamental solutions."
