This inspection is a nationwide initiative based on the "Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety" and will be carried out as a joint public-private inspection involving Gwangju City, five district governments, private sector experts, and the Citizen Safety Monitoring Group.
The inspection will cover 360 locations, including 142 public facilities, 126 traditional markets and multi-use facilities, and 92 aging apartment complexes without sprinkler systems. In addition, the operation of 3,226 emergency crime prevention bells connected to the integrated CCTV control center will be checked.
In particular, the inspection will focus on verifying whether follow-up measures have been implemented at facilities identified as needing repairs or reinforcement during the intensive safety inspections conducted from 2023 to 2025. The safety inspection system's records will also be updated accordingly.
With the Chuseok holiday approaching, the city plans to closely examine fire and facility safety at traditional markets and multi-use facilities that are frequently used by citizens, using checklists tailored to each field in accordance with relevant laws. For households vulnerable to fire, the city will provide standalone alarm detectors and fire extinguishers to ensure practical safety.
Twenty-nine members of the Citizen Safety Monitoring Group will directly participate in checking the emergency crime prevention bells connected to CCTV. The city will also conduct a public awareness campaign promoting voluntary safety checks in conjunction with "Safety Inspection Day" to raise citizens' awareness of safety.
