A Participatory Music Festival Created by Amateur Choirs and the Audience Nationwide
Pyeongchang County Presents the Theme: "All Together, Singing Gyechon’s Song with One Heart"
Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province announced on September 13 that it will hold the '2025 1st Gyechon Choir Festival,' a participatory music festival where amateur choirs and the audience come together, on September 27 in the area around Gyechon Classic Village.
This festival is jointly hosted by Pyeongchang County and the social contribution company K-Arts Creative. Under the theme "All Together, Singing Gyechon’s Song with One Heart," it is a participatory event where amateur choirs and classical music enthusiasts from across the country create a festival together.
The Gyechon Choir Festival was planned as part of the "Gyechon Classic Arts Village Development Project," which is being promoted through a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport regional cooperation agreement contest. The aim is to establish a local cultural foundation where classical music becomes part of daily life, providing a non-competitive, fringe-style open choir stage where choirs of various ages and regions can come together and celebrate.
Gyechon Village is establishing year-round music and art content with events such as the summer "Gyechon Classic Festival," the monthly "Gyechon Rest [Hyu] Concert," and now the autumn "Gyechon Choir Festival." This small mountain village in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, is transforming into a place where art is alive in every season.
The autumn festival, "Gyechon Choir Festival," blends the nature and art of Gyechon Village in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province. It is set to deliver a special and moving experience to everyone who loves music and choral singing, from diverse amateur choirs and newly formed children’s choirs to leading national choirs.
This year’s Gyechon Choir Festival will feature three unique stages: the "Fringe Performance," the "Celebratory Performance," and the "Chorus for All." The Fringe Performance will showcase amateur choirs from across the country, selected through preliminary rounds, who will freely take the stage and share their talents, focusing on the joy of participation rather than competition.
In particular, this year’s fringe stage will feature the Gyechon Starlight Orchestra, the foundation of Gyechon Classic Village, along with eight fringe teams from across the country selected through open recruitment, presenting a diverse array of choral and musical performances.
The celebratory performance will include the National Chorus of Korea, which participated in the Gyechon Classic Festival this past June, presenting the essence of choral music through classical repertoire and audience-friendly pieces. Additionally, the Parkdalcho Choir (Dreaming Harmony Choir), which moved audiences on shows such as "You Quiz on the Block," will deliver a warm performance, and one team selected as the representative of the fringe will also take the stage to meet the audience.
During the "Chorus for All," all participants and audience members will join together to sing a designated song in a grand chorus. This stage will offer a true communal artistic experience, reminiscent of the Latvian Song Festival.
Gyechon Village’s unique concert style, where audiences can spread out mats and enjoy music as if on a picnic, offers a distinctive sense of immersion in harmony with pristine nature. Simply sitting among the green forests, fresh air, and tranquil village scenery can relieve the fatigue of daily life and provide deep healing. From families to choir enthusiasts, anyone can enjoy the festival freely. The Gyechon Choir Festival is more than just a performance; it will evoke the excitement of setting off on a special journey to an arts village.
An artistic celebration blending music, culture, and emotion will unfold in Gyechon, Bangnim-myeon, Pyeongchang County, providing an opportunity to connect more deeply with the arts through meaningful stories and encounters.
Pyeongchang County and K-Arts Creative stated that, through this festival, "We aim to create a festival where not only artists, but anyone who loves music, can become the main character on stage."
