On September 12, Sejong City announced that it will work with the Personal Information Protection Commission to improve hidden personal information infringement factors within local ordinances. This initiative aims to prevent unnecessary collection and processing of personal information and to create a safe administrative environment.
After reviewing the ordinances together with the Personal Information Protection Commission, the city decided to address personal information infringement factors found in 19 ordinances. Notably, the collection and processing of personal information unrelated to the purpose of the work was identified as a key area for improvement. In addition, the city found that cases where the ordinances did not align with the intent and content of the Personal Information Protection Act, or where resident registration numbers were processed without a legal basis required by presidential decree or higher, also constituted infringements of personal information.
The city plans to revise ordinances that raise concerns about personal information infringement through the appropriate procedures, actively working to prevent potential leaks of personal information during the handling of civil complaints.
