Gwangju City Sets Next Year's Living Wage at 11,240 Won... 1.9% Increase
Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that at the recent Gwangju City Living Wage Deliberation Committee meeting, the living wage for 2026 was set at 11,240 won per hour.
The living wage for next year was calculated by comprehensively considering the projected future consumer price index and the city's fiscal conditions. This represents an increase of 210 won (1.9%) compared to the 2025 living wage of 11,030 won.
Accordingly, the monthly salary based on the 2026 living wage (calculated for 209 hours) will be 2,349,160 won, which is 9% higher than the minimum wage monthly salary of 2,156,880 won.
The living wage system was introduced to supplement the minimum wage and ensure workers' actual livelihoods. The newly set living wage will be applied from January 1, 2026, to Gwangju City employees, employees of city-funded and city-invested institutions, and employees of organizations that have signed construction or service contracts with the city.
