Urban Regeneration Expo to Be Held in Jeongra District from September 24 to 27
Samcheok, a city embracing the East Sea, mountains, and memories of its industrial past, will transform into the heart of urban innovation in South Korea this September.
Samcheok City in Gangwon Province will host the "2025 Korea Urban and Regional Innovation Industrial Expo" from September 24 to 27 in the Jeongra District urban regeneration area, embarking on a grand journey toward a new future for the city.
This expo, jointly organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and Samcheok City, is a nationwide event sharing the vision and achievements of urban regeneration under the slogan "Life to the Region, Breath to the City." With 123 local governments, organizations, and companies from across the country participating and an expected 30,000 visitors, Samcheok itself will become the stage for urban innovation.
Samcheok City's hosting of this expo holds significance beyond that of a simple event.
The Jeongra District, once vibrant with the shipbuilding industry, faced stagnation following industrial decline. However, this expo is expected to serve as a turning point, reviving traces of the past through culture, art, and innovation, and transforming Samcheok from a declining industrial city into a city of culture and creativity.
During the event, the Jeongra District will be transformed into a grand festival venue. At the exhibition and promotion hall, government ministries, local governments, companies, and research institutes will showcase innovative cases where urban regeneration meets advanced technology. Major programs such as an international conference, urban regeneration governance forum, and academic paper presentations will be held in succession, allowing experts to share their wisdom and experience.
There will also be plenty of spaces where citizens and tourists can directly experience the event.
The Samcheok Promotion Hall will visualize the district's revival, decline, and regeneration, telling Samcheok's unique story. At Eoullim Square, a food market and rest areas will be provided so that both locals and visitors can mingle. In addition, regional festivals such as the International Art Symposium, Social Market, and National Heritage Night Tour will be held simultaneously, demonstrating how urban regeneration is expanding into everyday culture.
