This agreement aims to resolve the parking shortage for Wonju Station users and address the issue of illegal parking in the surrounding area. Korea Land and Housing Corporation has agreed to lease seven parcels of land, including parking lot sites within the Namwonju Station area, totaling 25,639 square meters, to Wonju City free of charge.
Additionally, Jungbong Construction and Woomi Construction, both of which are building apartment complexes in the Namwonju Station area, will directly carry out the construction of the temporary parking lot as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives. This includes laying aggregate and painting parking lines. As a result, Wonju City will be able to save approximately 300 million won in budget for the construction of the parking lot.
The temporary parking lot, which will be the size of three soccer fields, is the result of continuous discussions among Wonju City, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, and the construction companies. It is considered a model case of public-private cooperation.
Once completed, the city plans to manage and operate the parking lot, opening it free of charge to all citizens using Wonju Station as well as to construction workers at the apartment sites. This is expected to greatly improve transportation convenience for Wonju Station users and contribute significantly to revitalizing the station area.
Mayor Won Kangsoo stated, "This agreement is an ideal model of public-private partnership that addresses a long-standing wish of our citizens without additional budget expenditure, thanks to the proactive proposals from private companies and the generous cooperation of the public corporation. I would like to express my deep gratitude to Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Jungbong Construction, and Woomi Construction for making this difficult decision."
