View original imageOn September 10, Suncheon City and the Suncheon World Heritage Conservation Council announced that they will jointly host the World Heritage Forum on the 12th to share outstanding cases and policies related to the conservation and utilization of world heritage sites in response to climate change.
The event will take place at 11 a.m. at Paru Hall, Suncheon National University, under the theme "Conservation and Utilization of World Heritage Sites in Response to the Climate Crisis." Nine domestic and international experts will participate in keynote speeches, academic presentations, and a comprehensive panel discussion.
The keynote speech will be delivered by Ave Paulus, President of ICOMOS Estonia, who will present on climate crisis response and action for world heritage conservation from the perspective of ICOMOS.
The following thematic presentations will be: "Conservation and Utilization Strategies for Seonamsa Temple, a World Heritage Site, in the Era of Climate Crisis" by Professor Lee Jongsoo of Suncheon National University; "Case Studies on the Severity of Cultural Heritage Damage Caused by Climate Change and Wildfires" by Professor Kim Donghyun of Jeonju University; "A Warming Earth: The Present and Future of the Ocean" by Dr. Kim Yongseon of the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology; and "World Heritage Conservation Strategies Using Artificial Intelligence Technology" by Professor Yoo Jeongmin of the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage.
Finally, a comprehensive panel discussion will be chaired by Professor Ryu Siyoung of Hanlyeo University, with participation from eight experts.
