GGM Surpasses 200,000 Units in Cumulative Production... "Leading the Revitalization of the Local Economy"
Emerging as a Specialized Global Automobile Manufacturer
Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) announced on September 8 that it has surpassed a cumulative production of 200,000 vehicles since starting production of its first unit in September 2021.
GGM began mass production of the Casper in September 2021, reached 100,000 units in October 2023, and started full-scale production of the electric vehicle (Casper Electric) in July last year. With exports of electric vehicles beginning in October, GGM achieved a cumulative production of 200,000 units in just four years, reaching this milestone on September 6.
On the morning of the same day, the city held a commendation ceremony in the city hall business room to honor employees for their contributions to the production of 200,000 Casper vehicles. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Kang Gijung, GGM CEO Yoon Monghyun, executives and staff, members of the Win-Win Cooperation Council, and members of the Gwangju Labor-Management-Civil Administration Council.
GGM's achievement of surpassing 200,000 units in cumulative production is especially significant as it demonstrates the company's ability to overcome challenging domestic and international conditions and secure a stable foundation as a global automobile manufacturing plant. The Casper is enjoying remarkable success in Europe, including Germany-a powerhouse in the automotive industry-thanks to its top quality, competitive pricing, practical design, excellent performance, and eco-friendly features that meet environmental regulations.
Furthermore, the Casper is establishing a presence in Japan, known as the "graveyard of imported cars," and is now exported to 66 countries worldwide. Securing these overseas markets has not only enabled GGM to take a major leap forward, but also marked its emergence as a specialized global automobile manufacturer.
Accordingly, GGM plans to remain true to its original intentions, address any shortcomings, and further strengthen its global competitiveness. The company is committed to living up to the expectations of Gwangju citizens by creating 1,000 jobs in the near term and up to 2,000 jobs in the long term, as well as leading the revitalization of the local economy.
The city of Gwangju also plans to actively support GGM so that it can become a fully-fledged automobile manufacturing plant capable of producing 200,000 vehicles annually, as it has done over the past four years.
