Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on September 8 that its environmental education program, "GREEN Bucheon with EM," has been selected as an excellent program by the Ministry of Environment.
The Ministry of Environment operates the "Excellent Environmental Education Program" designation system to discover and promote systematic and effective environmental education programs. The ministry conducts a comprehensive review of eco-friendliness, excellence, and safety.
Following last year's "Elementary Ecological Environment and Climate Classroom," which was also recognized, Bucheon City’s ongoing "GREEN Bucheon with EM" program has once again been selected as an excellent environmental education program this year.

In particular, the absolute lack of green spaces within the city center is reducing the urban ecosystem’s resilience.
In response, Bucheon City is operating the "GREEN Bucheon with EM" program, which provides practical, everyday environmental education. The program focuses on activities such as river purification using effective microorganisms (EM), reducing household odors, and using eco-friendly detergents and soaps.
This participatory education program helps citizens directly address environmental issues in their daily lives. Bucheon City produces 800 tons of EM annually and supplies it free of charge to 43 locations in the region, earning high marks for both accessibility and effectiveness.
Bucheon Mayor Cho Yongik stated, "It is highly meaningful that an education program tailored to Bucheon’s urban structure and environmental conditions has been recognized for its excellence nationwide. We will expand specialized education linked to local environmental issues and work with citizens to build a sustainable environmental city."
