Gochang County in North Jeolla Province announced on September 8 that Gyochon Village in Gochang-eup (located behind the county office) was recently selected for the "Revitalize Our Neighborhood Project New Contest" hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Together with the previously promoted "Youth-Specialized Housing" project, this initiative is expected to become a model case of "Village Revitalization" where existing residents and young people live together.

However, during ordinary times, the area has been perceived as a crime-prone zone at night due to its old and dilapidated houses and steep, narrow alleyways.
Starting next year and continuing through 2029, the county will invest a total of 9.7 billion won (with 4 billion won from the national budget) to carry out slate roof repairs and reinforce dangerous retaining walls. Additionally, a "Barrier-Free Path" will be created to ensure that strollers and wheelchairs can move around the area without difficulty.
In particular, a "Saebom Community Center" will be established in Gyochon Village for residents, serving as a multifunctional community space for cultural classes, resident meetings, and other activities.
Furthermore, the space left vacant by the relocation of the village's daycare center at the entrance is being developed into "Youth-Specialized Housing." This will consist of two-room units with an exclusive area of 45.54 square meters, and approximately 40 households will be accommodated in a five-story building.
Previously, the county worked together with residents to plan the project and select it for the contest, aiming to address local vulnerabilities. Expert consultations were actively incorporated into the project plan to ensure improvements were thoroughly reflected.
