Large, Sweet Cheongyang Chestnuts
Grown in Pristine Nature, Now Exported Overseas
With the Chuseok holiday approaching, freshly harvested Cheongyang chestnuts, grown in the pristine nature at the foot of Chilgapsan Mountain, will soon reach consumers.
On September 8, Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province announced that it will be purchasing freshly harvested chestnuts from mid-September through mid-October.
Accordingly, Cheongyang Nonghyup will begin purchases from today, while the Forestry Cooperative and Jeongsan Nonghyup will officially start buying chestnuts from the 10th.
The county produces approximately 6,200 tons of chestnuts annually from about 1,200 forest farms cultivating a total of 2,675 hectares of woodland.
Among these, freshly harvested chestnuts of outstanding quality are strictly managed and exported not only to the domestic market but also overseas.
In particular, Cheongyang chestnuts, grown in conditions of significant temperature differences and abundant sunlight, are known for their large size and high sugar content, earning consistent praise from consumers each year.
During the Cheongyang Pepper and Goji Berry Festival, which will be held from the 19th to the 21st, a promotional booth for Cheongyang chestnuts will be set up, offering visitors the opportunity to taste and experience the chestnuts firsthand.
