Kim Kyunam of Naver Webtoon Receives Minister's Award
Recognized for Key Role in Copyright Protection and Anti-Piracy Efforts
Kim Kyunam, Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of Naver Webtoon, received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the '8th Intellectual Property Day' ceremony held on September 4. The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award is presented to individuals who have achieved outstanding results in the fields of copyright related to culture, arts, and content.
The Intellectual Property Day ceremony is an annual event held on September 4, hosted by the Presidential National Intellectual Property Committee and the Ministry of Science and ICT. It recognizes individuals and organizations who have contributed to the creation, protection, and development of intellectual property.
Kim CRO was recognized for his key role in establishing content protection policies, overseeing legal affairs and policy since joining Naver Webtoon in 2018.
As the leader of Naver Webtoon's specialized anti-piracy team, 'Anti Piracy,' Kim has actively implemented not only technical measures but also various legal and policy responses to protect copyrights. Since 2020, he has served as a director of the Copyright Overseas Association (COA), participating in global initiatives to combat illegal distribution of webtoons.
Upon receiving the award, Kim stated, "I will continue to do my best to create more meaningful cases of rights enforcement so that the efforts of creators and industry professionals are not in vain."
Previously, in November last year, Naver Webtoon was also recognized for its efforts against illegal webtoon distribution and received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the '1st Korea Copyright Protection Awards and Copyright Development Merit Ceremony.'

On August 6, Naver Webtoon represented the domestic content industry at the APEC international workshop, 'Approaches and Strategies for Combating Illegal Streaming,' held at Songdo Convensia in Incheon, where it presented technical measures and achievements in copyright protection.
