The final 10th class scholarship students selected are Jimin Song (Cheonan Jungang High School Broadcasting and Communications High School) and Hyori Han (Eunkwang Girls’ High School), for a total of two recipients. Each will receive up to 20 million won (approximately 20,000,000 won) per year in scholarships and training support.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the OK Golf Scholarship is a program designed to support the growth of promising players who will lead K-Golf. Since the first selection in 2015, graduates of the scholarship program have made their mark for years in the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA), establishing the program as a gateway for “super rookies.”
Including the 10th class, a total of 29 students have been selected as scholarship recipients to date. Notably, Woojeong Kim from the first class signed a sponsorship contract with OK Financial Group last year, continuing the relationship that began during her amateur days. Minsol Kim from the sixth class claimed her first victory as a recommended player at the KLPGA Tour last month. Shinsil Bang, also from the sixth class, won twice in just the first half of this year.
Sumin Oh from the eighth class also achieved double victories in both the individual and team events at the Queen Sirikit Cup Asia-Pacific Women’s Amateur Championship in May.
Since 2014, the foundation has co-hosted the “OK Financial Group Korea University Golf Tournament” with the Korea University Golf Federation, awarding scholarships to the winners. Its affiliate, OK Savings Bank, currently sponsors Taehee Lee, who is active on the KPGA Tour.
Chairman Yoon Choi stated, “With the 15th anniversary of the OK Savings Bank Eutman Open and the 10th anniversary of the scholarship program both taking place this month, I believe the passion of the tour and the challenges of the scholarship students are coming together to brighten the future of Korean women’s golf. The foundation will continue to quietly support our scholarship alumni so that they can excel not just domestically, but also on the global stage.”
