Daejeon Strengthens Its Status as a Leading Space Industry City
ICT Standard Insight Event Promotes Convergence of Space and Satellite Communication Technologies
An event was held to further solidify Daejeon's status as a "leading city in the space industry," as recognized at the 2025 National Industry Awards, and to promote the convergence of information and communication technology (ICT).
On September 4, Daejeon Technopark hosted the "Daejeon Regional Space and Satellite Communication ICT Standard Insight (ISI)" at the Satellite Research Center of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
The ISI is a customized seminar for industry, academia, and research institutes, designed to promote the convergence of regional key industries and ICT in cooperation with local governments. The event is organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Daejeon City, and jointly hosted by the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), Daejeon Technopark (Daejeon TP), Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), and the Satellite Communication Forum.
This networking event focused on Daejeon's specialized industries in space and satellite communications, with over 150 experts from related companies, research institutes, and graduate students in attendance to share the latest trends and expand collaborative networks.
During the "Space and Satellite Communication Led by Enterprises" session, leading domestic companies such as Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), Contec, NetCustomize, LIG Nex1, and Hanwha Systems introduced the current status of their satellite and ground station businesses and the latest trends in satellite payload development, providing insights into industry developments.
In the following session, "Space and Satellite Communication Driven by Policy and Standards," Daejeon TP, ETRI, the Korea Aerospace Administration, the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), and KAIST presented topics including: Daejeon's space industry development plan, 6G low Earth orbit satellite communication projects, the status of the Korean Positioning System (KPS) development, and the space and satellite communication standardization strategy map. The session broadly addressed issues related to policy, technology, and standardization, exploring the future direction of the industry.
