Daejeon Technopark to Advance and Strengthen Competitiveness of Root Industry
Business Agreement Signed with the Korea Advanced Root Industry Association
Accelerating Digital Transformation and Technological Advancement in Daejeon’s Root Industry
Establishing a Five-Year Master Plan and Building Flexible In-Line Shared Factories
A platform has been established to support the sustainable growth and digital transformation of Daejeon’s root industries, which are responsible for core manufacturing technologies such as mold and casting.
On September 2, Daejeon Technopark signed a business agreement with the Korea Advanced Root Industry Association (Chairman Hwang Deokyoung) at the Daejeon Technopark Eoullim Plaza to advance and strengthen the competitiveness of the root industry.
The root industry is an essential sector that underpins the competitiveness of a wide range of advanced industries such as automobiles, semiconductors, aerospace, and eco-friendly energy, serving as the foundation for the development of high-tech industries.
Under the agreement, the two organizations plan to cooperate on various initiatives to advance the root industry, including: discovering policies and projects for root industry development; establishing collaborative spaces for technological advancement; operating the Daejeon Advanced Root Industry Council and co-hosting forums; and building and operating a customized, flexible in-line shared factory.
Daejeon Technopark will take the lead in developing policies for the root industry, promoting support projects, and building infrastructure, while the association will strengthen its role by collecting industry feedback to establish effective, field-oriented policy foundations.
In particular, the two organizations will jointly establish the "Daejeon Root Industry Development Master Plan" for the five-year period from 2026 to 2030, with plans to finalize and announce it by December this year.
In addition, Daejeon Technopark has been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Industrial Innovation Infrastructure Project and is working to build a flexible in-line shared factory based on additive manufacturing. This project, with a total investment of 15.1 billion won including 10 billion won in national funding, is regarded as a key infrastructure for establishing advanced manufacturing foundations and accelerating the digital transformation of the root industry.
The industry expects that this project will contribute to technological innovation and productivity improvement for root industry companies that have previously been in policy blind spots.
