Jinju City Council Holds Kick-off Meeting for ESG Policy Research Project
Seeking Sustainable Policy Tasks Tailored to Regional Characteristics
Final Report Outcomes to Be Shared in November
The Jinju City ESG Activation Research Group, a council member research organization of the Jinju City Council in South Gyeongsang Province, held a kick-off meeting for the research project titled "Study on ESG Activation Strategies for the Sustainability of Jinju City."
This research project is being promoted in response to the growing global demand for the introduction and expansion of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, which has also increased the importance of the role played by local governments. The research group plans to link the outcomes of this project to establishing a policy foundation that will enable Jinju City to develop ESG policies tailored to the region's unique characteristics.
At the meeting held on September 2, Kim Youngcheol, a professor at Gyeongsang National University and head of the Center for Sustainable Development, who is the lead researcher, presented the research plan. City council members and the research team then reviewed the kick-off report and engaged in discussion. They selected customized ESG policy tasks for Jinju City and coordinated the detailed direction of the research.

The project will cover an assessment of the current ESG status of Jinju City and local businesses, a comparative analysis of policy cases from other local governments, and strategies for building cooperative networks among the city, public institutions, and local universities.
The research group plans to regularly share the research process and outcomes between the interim report in October and the final report in November.
Representative Assemblywoman Choi Jiwon stated, "ESG is now a necessity, not a choice," and added, "We hope that this research will enable Jinju City to develop concrete and actionable strategies to move toward becoming a sustainable city."
