The committee meeting was attended by more than 20 members, including Lee Juhee, President of Dongshin University and co-chairman of the committee, university presidents from the Jeollanam-do region, the president of Jeonnam Technopark, and officials from the provincial government.
The participants deliberated and resolved three key issues: providing incentives to participating universities, approving revised project plans, and amending the standards for execution and management of the Jeonnam RISE project budget. They also discussed ways to ensure systematic project implementation, generate tangible outcomes, and identify leading models that could be expanded nationwide.
As the new government’s policy directions and growth strategies, such as AI data, energy, and shipbuilding, largely align with Jeollanam-do’s strategic industries, creating local industrial technologies and nurturing talent have emerged as urgent tasks.
In response, the Jeonnam RISE Committee decided to provide budget incentives to encourage universities to expand customized education and research and development in line with the province’s strategic industries. They also revised and supplemented each university’s project plan to enhance the alignment and effectiveness of collaboration among local government, industry, and academia.
Jeollanam-do aims to maximize results by increasing university participation and enhancing the reliability of project management through these committee decisions. At the same time, the province plans to identify a successful Jeonnam-style model based on cooperation among universities, industries, and local government, and to promote its adoption nationwide.
Kang Jongcheol, Director of the Human Resources Development and Education Bureau of Jeollanam-do, stated, "Jeonnam RISE is a core project that serves as the axis of regional innovation and will make Jeollanam-do a place where local talent can find employment or start businesses. We will do our utmost to ensure that it becomes a leading model of innovation by thoroughly managing and generating results."
