Man in His 50s Claiming to Be "Sewol Ferry Survivor" Arrested After Self-Harm Incident in Front of Presidential Office
A man who claimed to be a "Sewol ferry survivor" was apprehended by police after causing a commotion by self-harming in front of the presidential office in Yongsan.
On September 2, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that they had arrested a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of possessing a weapon in a public place.
According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of injuring himself with a weapon and causing a disturbance near the main gate of the Ministry of National Defense, close to the presidential office in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, around 7 p.m. the previous day.
It has been reported that during the police investigation, Mr. A stated he had no intention of harming others.

The police stated, "There were no other casualties as the incident was limited to self-harm," adding, "We will decide whether to refer the case for prosecution after completing the investigation."
