LG Electronics Teams Up with UK’s Octopus to Accelerate Push into European Cleantech Market
MOU Signed with the UK’s Largest Power Supplier, Octopus Energy
High-Efficiency Heat Pumps Featuring LG Electronics’ CoreTech
Integrated Solution with Octopus Energy’s AI Platform, Kraken
LG Electronics is strengthening its push into the European cleantech market by partnering with Octopus Energy, the largest electricity provider in the UK. The plan is to introduce a solution that integrates LG Electronics’ high-efficiency heat pumps, powered by its advanced core component technology, with Octopus’s proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) energy management platform, targeting markets such as the UK and Germany.
LG Electronics announced on September 2 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic collaboration at the Octopus headquarters in London, UK, on August 28. The signing ceremony was attended by Taebong Yoon, Vice President and Head of Overseas Sales Division at LG Electronics; Hwalsu Choi, Managing Director of LG Electronics UK; Greg Jackson, CEO and Founder of Octopus Energy; and Tim Hill, Chief Strategy Officer at Octopus Energy.

Through its self-developed AI-based energy management platform, Kraken, Octopus provides real-time renewable energy price information, enabling customers to choose more affordable energy options.
The two companies plan to introduce a solution that links LG Electronics’ high-efficiency heat pump heating and cooling systems with Octopus’s Kraken platform in key European markets such as the UK and Germany. This initiative specifically targets European customers who have become increasingly sensitive to energy costs following recent energy crises and price surges. The goal is to deliver an optimal heating and cooling experience while reducing energy expenses. Both companies intend to gradually expand the scope of their collaboration, including products and regions.
Heat pump heating and cooling systems operate using waste heat or unused ambient heat sources, resulting in lower carbon emissions and greater energy efficiency compared to conventional systems that use fossil fuels. LG Electronics emphasized that its differentiated 'CoreTech' inverter scroll compressor technology offers enhanced durability and safety. The company expects this collaboration to serve as a springboard for growth in the European market and to broaden its business domains.
Greg Jackson, CEO of Octopus Energy, stated, "Heat pumps are a core technology for eco-friendly and economical heating, and LG Electronics offers industry-leading products and technological capabilities. By integrating LG Electronics’ heating and cooling systems with Octopus’s Kraken platform, customers will be able to reduce heating costs and contribute to environmental protection."
