View original imageAt his inauguration ceremony held on the morning of September 1 at the Constitutional Court building in Jaedong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Secretary General Son referred to the challenges presented by Chief Justice Kim Sanghwan in his own inaugural address last July-namely, "a court whose judgments are trusted and accepted, and one that shares the meaning of the Constitution with the public." He added, "I believe that the intention is to strengthen the independence and neutrality of the Constitutional Court, and to increase public acceptance, through the institutionalization and operation of rational and objective adjudication procedures."
He emphasized, "Our dedication and efforts will lead to a higher standard of constitutional adjudication, and through this, the Constitution of the Republic of Korea will be able to fully serve as a unifying center for our political community."

Secretary General Son graduated from the Department of Law at Yonsei University and passed the 38th National Judicial Examination. He began his public service career in 1999 as an Assistant Constitutional Research Officer at the Constitutional Court. He later served as a Constitutional Research Officer and in the Office of the Chief Justice. After retiring in March 2016, he has worked as a professor at the Yonsei University Law School. The Secretary General is a ministerial-level official who oversees administrative affairs such as personnel and budget at the Constitutional Court. Son is the second person with a background as a Constitutional Research Officer to be appointed Secretary General, following former Secretary General Kim Jeongwon.
