Gangjin Goryeo Celadon Museum Announces Winners of the 25th Celadon Contest
The Goryeo Celadon Museum in Gangjin County, South Jeolla Province, announced the winners of the 25th Korea Celadon Contest on August 29.
Ceramic artists from across the country participated in this contest. Experts in ceramics, ceramic history, crafts, and design were appointed as judges and conducted a comprehensive evaluation based on completion, artistry, creativity, and expressiveness.

View original imageThe Grand Prize was awarded to Kim Wonsik for 'Cheongja Palgak Ginhaengkko.' The Excellence Awards went to Kim Yuseong for 'Chwijungjindam' and Hong Jieun for 'Gyunyeolui Ridheum.' Kang Gwangmok's 'Heunjeok-2' and Kim Jeongwoo's 'Cheongja Cheophwa Hwahyeong Juja Set' received the Merit Awards. In total, 31 artists were recognized, including 10 Special Selection recipients and 16 Honorable Mentions.
The awards ceremony will be held at the opening of the special exhibition at the Goryeo Celadon Museum this November. The Grand Prize winner will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a prize of 10 million won. The Excellence Award recipients will receive the South Jeolla Province Governor’s Award and 5 million won, while the Merit Award winners will receive the Gangjin County Governor’s Award and 2 million won.
The winning works will be on display for free from October 1 to November 30 in the second-floor exhibition hall of the Goryeo Celadon Digital Museum.

Kim Youngsoo, the head judge, stated, "Many works that blend tradition with a modern sensibility were submitted, raising the standard of the celadon contest." Choi Youngcheon, director of the Goryeo Celadon Museum, added, "Through the Korea Celadon Contest, we aim to promote the succession and development of the traditional culture of Gangjin Goryeo celadon."
