Trump Confident of Republican Victory in Midterms...Proposes National Convention Before Election
Trump Proposes National Convention for GOP
Timing and Location Not Specified
A Move Aimed at Rallying Supporters
On August 28 (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence, stating, "Based on our great achievements, the Republican Party will win big in next November's midterm elections."
On this day, President Trump wrote on the social networking service Truth Social, "The Republican Party is doing very well right now. Millions of people are joining us on our journey to 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA)," expressing this optimism.
Typically, major U.S. political parties hold their national conventions in the summer before the presidential election every four years. Considering this, President Trump's latest proposal deviates from established tradition.
He said, "We are raising much more money than the Democratic Party, we are doing an excellent job correcting the nation-destroying mistakes made by the Biden administration, and we are witnessing America being healed and prospering."
He continued, "The results are incredibly remarkable and are happening at a record pace. In that context, I am considering recommending that the Republican Party hold its National Convention right before the midterm elections. This would be unprecedented." However, President Trump did not specify when or where the convention would be held.
President Trump's remarks came just after Axios reported the previous day that the Democratic leadership was considering a similar plan. A spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) stated in a press release, "We are discussing various options ahead of next year's midterm elections, and holding large-scale rallies to highlight outstanding candidates running nationwide and to harness the already growing grassroots energy is among the options being considered."
According to Politico, the Democratic Party is deliberating on ways to reclaim congressional power next year and to disrupt the 'Republican three-branch control (White House, Senate, and House of Representatives)' under the Trump administration.
Next November's midterm elections will serve as a midterm evaluation of President Trump's second administration, and the results are expected to have a significant impact on his governance and the advancement of key policies. President Trump's mention of holding the national convention just before the midterm elections is seen as a display of political confidence and an effort to rally his supporters. He has already announced that he raised 1.5 billion dollars in political funds since last year's presidential election.
