Professor Shin Jongdae has been appointed as the 11th President of the University of North Korean Studies. He will officially assume office on September 1.

View original imageOn August 27, the University of North Korean Studies announced that the board of directors of the Shimyeon Academy, the school foundation, held a meeting on August 21 and appointed Professor Shin as president. His term will run from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2027.
President-elect Shin previously served as Director of Planning at the Institute for Far Eastern Studies, Vice President and Acting President of the University of North Korean Studies. After serving as a professor at the Institute for Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University and at the University of North Korean Studies, he has been a professor at the University of North Korean Studies since 2005.

The University of North Korean Studies stated, "President-elect Shin has contributed to academic development as a member of the editorial planning committee at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy and as president of the Korean Cold War Studies Association. He has also enhanced the university's reputation through active external engagement, including serving as a member of the Inter-Korean Relations Development Committee, an advisory member of the Ministry of Science and ICT's Inter-Korean Science and Technology Exchange and Cooperation Committee, and an advisory member of the Ministry of Unification's Policy Advisory Committee, thereby contributing to government policy formulation."
