A Model for Local Food Direct Sales, Boosting Farm Incomes and Attracting Nationwide Attention
Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that the 'Gwangju City Jayeonchae Food Farm Center' local food direct sales market has achieved cumulative sales of 3 billion won just one year and two months after opening.
The Jayeonchae Food Farm Center, which is operated directly by Gwangju City, recorded sales of 1.2 billion won in its first year following its temporary opening in June 2024, and as of August 2025, has surpassed 3 billion won in cumulative sales.
The center has attracted a total of 140,000 visitors, and during the first anniversary event held from July 2 to 7, thousands of people visited, establishing the center as a successful model for direct transactions of local agricultural products.
The Jayeonchae Food Farm Center direct sales market provides a stable sales channel through a producer-centered distribution structure, making a significant contribution to increasing farm income. In fact, some participating farms have achieved monthly sales exceeding 5 million won, earning recognition as so-called 'salary-earning farmers.'
Additionally, as news of the direct sales market's success spreads nationwide, other local governments have been making inquiries about visiting for benchmarking purposes. To further vitalize the local food direct sales market, the city is promoting various programs such as promotional events and 'apartment direct transaction markets.' The city is also actively ensuring the safe supply of agricultural products by supporting pesticide residue inspections and facilities such as greenhouses and cold storage units.
