Yangju City to Host 'Hoeamsaji World Heritage Tentative List Selection Commemorative International Academic Conference'
Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province will host the 'Hoeamsaji World Heritage Tentative List Selection Commemorative International Academic Conference' at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry International Conference Hall on August 28.

View original imageThis academic conference, themed 'Hoeamsaji in Yangju and East Asian Buddhist Heritage: World Heritage Inscription Cases and Promotion Strategies,' will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The event will begin with a keynote lecture by Song Inho, Professor Emeritus at the University of Seoul, titled 'The Heritage Value of Hoeamsaji in Yangju and the Significance of World Heritage Inscription.' It will be followed by six presentations: ▲ World Heritage Inscription and Conservation Status of Indian Buddhist Sites (Rima Huja, Chairperson of ICOMOS India) ▲ Conservation and Management of Nepalese Buddhist Heritage and World Heritage Site Lumbini (Gaiyanin Rai, Chairperson of ICOMOS Nepal) ▲ Preparation Process for the Tentative Evaluation of Thailand's Buddhist Heritage as World Heritage (Hattaya Siripattanakun, Senior Expert at SEAMEO Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts) ▲ Disaster Risk Management Strategies and Key Considerations for World Heritage Protection (Takeyuki Okubo, Director of ICOMOS Japan) ▲ The World Heritage Value of Korean Buddhism and Hoeamsaji (Kang Hoseon, Professor at Sungshin Women's University) ▲ The World Heritage Value of Hoeamsaji through Comparative International Cases (Han Jiman, Professor at Myongji University).
Following the presentations, Choi Jaeheon, Chairperson of ICOMOS Korea, will moderate a comprehensive discussion session.
On-site participation for the academic conference is available by advance registration on a first-come, first-served basis, and anyone can view the event online through the Yangju City Hall YouTube channel. The research findings will be used as comparative study materials for Hoeamsaji's UNESCO World Heritage inscription.

Hong Miyeong, head of the Culture and Tourism Division, stated, "We have organized this international academic conference to promote the world heritage value of Hoeamsaji and to conduct comparative research," and added, "We hope for active interest and participation from researchers in world heritage, architectural history, archaeology, and Buddhist studies, as well as from citizens."
