Nonsan City in South Chungcheong Province is making every effort to secure national funding for key pending issues, such as the construction of the National Defense Future Technology Research Center and disaster prevention projects, ahead of the submission of the 2026 government budget bill to the National Assembly.
On the 22nd, the city visited the National Assembly and the offices of local lawmakers to explain the necessity of projects directly linked to establishing the foundation for future regional industries, including the Defense Industry Innovation Cluster and the National Defense Future Technology Research Center. The city also requested that these projects be reflected in the government budget bill.
This visit is a strategic response to promote the growth engine of Nonsan City and improve the quality of life for its citizens through stable national funding, at a time when local finances are contracting due to decreased tax revenue and the government's fiscal soundness policy.
On this day, in addition to defense-related projects, the city also emphasized the necessity of disaster prevention and environmental improvement projects to ensure citizen safety and create a pleasant living environment. These include the maintenance of flood-prone areas in the Ganggyeong district, disaster risk improvement in Masan and Geumgok 3 districts of Yeonmu-eup and Sandong district of Gwangseok-myeon, and the installation of waste incineration facilities.
Mayor Baek Seonghyeon stated, "The pending issues in Nonsan are not merely local projects, but tasks that are closely aligned with national strategy," adding, "We will work closely with the National Assembly and central government agencies to ensure that the National Defense Future Technology Research Center and disaster prevention projects are included in the government budget bill."
