11 Million Won Gold Necklace Missing from Deceased Man’s Neck... Five Responding Officers Under Investigation
Necklace Visible in Initial Photo but Later Disappears
Five Officers, Including Detectives and Forensic Team, Under Investigation
The police have launched an investigation into those involved after a gold necklace worn by a deceased individual disappeared from the scene of an unattended death in Incheon.
According to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Incheon Police Station on August 22, a 119 emergency call was received around 2 p.m. on August 20, reporting that a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, was found unconscious and not breathing at a villa in Namdong-gu, Incheon. Fire authorities who responded to the scene confirmed that Mr. A had already passed away and handed the case over to the police.
During the subsequent on-site investigation, the police discovered that a 20-don gold necklace (worth approximately 11 million won) that Mr. A had been wearing was missing. The necklace was visible in a photo taken by an officer from the Namdong Police Station, who was first to arrive at the scene, using a mobile phone, but it was not visible in photos taken later by the forensic team.
Considering the possibility of insider involvement, the police searched the bodies of the officers present at the scene, but the gold necklace was not found. Currently, five officers who were present at the scene-including two detectives, one coroner, and two forensic team members-are under investigation.
