Creating Child Protection Zones Using the "Daejeon Kkumssi Character"
Combining Safety and Friendliness
A pilot project to create child protection zones using the "Daejeon Kkumssi Character," familiar to children and citizens, is being launched.
From August to December 2025, Daejeon City will apply its representative mascots, Kkumdori and the Kkumssi Family characters, to protective fences in child protection zones in order to enhance both traffic safety for children and a friendly street image.
Although protective fences are essential for ensuring pedestrian safety for children, their monotonous design has previously attracted little attention.
The city plans to install the fences at one location in each district as a priority, with the specific sites to be determined by comprehensively considering each district's unique characteristics and surrounding conditions. Based on the results of the pilot project evaluation, Daejeon City will consider expanding the installation areas and developing ways to link the initiative with various traffic safety campaigns.
