EdgeFoundry Unveils Domestic Uncooled IR Sensor 'Thermo K' ? "Shaking the World with Korean Technology"
On August 14, EdgeFoundry held a new product launch event at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, where it unveiled its domestically produced uncooled IR sensor, 'Thermo K'.
'Thermo K', introduced at the event, is a QVGA-grade uncooled thermal imaging camera module developed entirely with domestic technology. According to the company, it is a game changer for the conventional cooled thermal imaging market, which has been limited by high costs and large form factors.
The core competitive advantages of this product are its excellent dynamic range control and high-speed response. By establishing an in-house sensor production system, EdgeFoundry has achieved both cost reduction and price competitiveness, while also ensuring stable mass production capabilities. These factors provide a solid foundation for entering the global market. In particular, the product is expected to drive demand across a wide range of industries, as it can be applied to military, security, industrial safety, medical, and automotive ADAS fields.
During the launch event, EdgeFoundry also presented a clear marketing roadmap. The company is developing tailored market entry strategies for key overseas markets such as Japan, China, the Middle East, Europe, and South Asia, and is expanding its local agency network. Especially in the automotive sector, EdgeFoundry plans to create new demand by applying thermal imaging sensors to advanced driver assistance systems such as night vision systems (NVS), automatic emergency braking (AEB), and child presence detection (CPD).
The global market is already favorable. The worldwide IR sensor market is expected to grow from approximately $535 million in 2023 to $751 million by 2028, with Asian countries such as China (annual growth rate of 8.5%) and Korea (annual growth rate of 7.3%) leading the expansion. In this environment, 'Thermo K' captures both localization and price competitiveness, aligning perfectly with the global trend of high performance and low cost.
An industry insider commented, "As the advancement of IR sensors and their convergence with AI accelerates, Thermo K holds a competitive edge over its rivals in both technological sophistication and market responsiveness," adding, "It demonstrates the potential for domestic technology to set global standards."
