"No Name on the Appointment List?"... Unassigned Civil Servant Breaks into Mayor's Office
Civil Servant Referred to Prosecution for Damaging Mayor's Office
Incident Triggered by Discontent Over Personnel Decisions
The Chungju Police Station in North Chungcheong Province announced on August 15 that it has referred a level-6 civil servant from Chungju City Hall, identified as Mr. A, to the prosecution without detention on charges of damaging public property. Mr. A is accused of breaking into the mayor's office by smashing the door out of dissatisfaction with a personnel decision and damaging office equipment.
Mr. A allegedly kicked down the door to the mayor's office around 8:00 p.m. on June 26, then threw or struck items such as a computer and printer, causing property damage estimated at approximately 10 million won. He reportedly caused a disturbance in the adjoining office and reception room, but was unable to enter the mayor's main office as the door was locked.

Mr. A, a level-6 employee without a current post, is believed to have committed the offense out of frustration that his name was omitted from the list of level-6 appointments announced earlier that day. Chungju City stated that it will decide on disciplinary action after Mr. A is formally indicted.
