This project is a commercial drone delivery initiative, made possible by securing 500 million KRW in national funding after being selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "2025 Drone Demonstration City Development Project" competition.
The project involves Siheung City as the lead entity, along with the Korea Research Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems (KRAUV), Umac Air Co., Ltd., and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. Each organization will share responsibilities throughout the entire process, including drone operation, control, safety management, and technical verification.
During the pilot project, citizens visiting the park will be able to experience receiving food delivered by drones firsthand.
The drone delivery service will be operated from the "Drone Delivery Center" established within the Siheung Drone Education Center of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. At the Drone Delivery Center, food ordered from four designated "delivery points" within Baegot Hanul Park-namely, the seawater pool, Helen Keller's Maze, the tidal flat experience center, and the playground-will be received. In addition to the Drone Delivery Center, the city plans to establish additional mobile delivery centers.
A total of four drones will be deployed for deliveries. Items available for delivery include restaurant foods such as chicken, pizza, and Chinese cuisine, as well as essential items focused on the convenience of park visitors, such as emergency kits and sunscreen.
To use the service, customers can scan a QR code printed on promotional materials, access Naver Smart Store, select their desired menu and delivery point, and then receive their order at the designated drone delivery receiving net. However, the service may be restricted in the event of adverse weather conditions, such as rain or strong winds.
Through the pilot project, the city plans to conduct more than 160 drone flights in total, aiming to secure technology and data for simultaneous operation of multiple drones and to verify safe flight routes. In particular, the city intends to accumulate key data for commercialization, such as drone flight stability, route optimization, and control efficiency, with the strategy of contributing to future improvements in urban drone delivery regulations and the expansion of the industry.
