South Korea and Vietnam Defense Ministers Hold Talks, Agree to Strengthen Defense and Defense Industry Cooperation
On August 12, the defense ministers of South Korea and Vietnam held talks to discuss ways to enhance bilateral defense and defense industry cooperation.
The Ministry of National Defense announced that Minister Shin Kyubaek met with Vietnamese Defense Minister Phan Van Giang, who is visiting South Korea as part of an official delegation, at the ministry headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, that afternoon.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed concrete measures to promote defense and defense industry cooperation in line with the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" between the two countries.
The two countries agreed to expedite the revision of the "Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation" in order to expand the scope of cooperation between their defense ministries and armed forces. They also committed to ensuring the continued success of bilateral defense industry cooperation.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the two countries signed an agreement for the transfer of a decommissioned patrol vessel (the ROKS Jecheon) from South Korea to Vietnam. This marks the third patrol vessel that South Korea has transferred to Vietnam.
