Police Question Civil Group That Accused Kang Sunwoo of False Testimony at Confirmation Hearing
On August 12, police questioned a representative of the Civil Committee for People’s Livelihood Measures as the complainant, following the group’s accusation that Kang Sunwoo, former Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee, had made false statements during her confirmation hearing.
The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul summoned Kim Soonhwan, secretary-general of the Civil Committee, who had filed a complaint against former nominee Kang on charges including perjury, abuse of authority, and obstruction of business, and questioned him for about one hour and fifty minutes that morning.
Kim stated, "I explained the circumstances of the complaint during the police investigation," and added, "I testified that, above all, it is necessary to investigate the aide in order to determine whether obstruction of business occurred."
