Mayor Bang Sehwan: "Securing Taxi Quotas... Will Do Our Best to Continuously Expand Supply"
Gwangju City Maintains Taxi Quota Without Reductions
920 Taxis Set as the Integrated Quota for Gwangju and Hanam
Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on August 12 that, following a review by the Gyeonggi Province Taxi Reduction Committee on July 30, it has decided to maintain the integrated taxi quota for Gwangju and Hanam at 920 vehicles, the same as during the fourth quota period.
This decision was made despite Gwangju and Hanam being subject to a reduction according to the results of the taxi quota calculation service conducted from November 2024 to June 2025, in line with the fifth "Guidelines for Taxi Quotas by Business Area." The outcome was achieved thanks to Gwangju City's proactive response.
In order to alleviate citizen inconvenience and improve the quality of transportation services, the city has repeatedly visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to strongly request improvements to the guidelines. In December of last year, the city officially proposed maintaining special provisions for mixed urban-rural areas and introducing a grace period for reductions, reflecting the local situation. These proposals were incorporated into the final revised guidelines, among the opinions submitted by 19 local governments nationwide.
As a result, the expanded supply of taxis established during the fourth Gwangju-Hanam taxi quota period (2020?2024) can be maintained through 2029 under the fifth quota period (2025?2029).

Mayor Bang Sehwan stated, "This decision is the result of proactively responding to and preventing a potential taxi reduction crisis." He added, "Since taxi supply and demand are still insufficient, we will continue to improve taxi operations, work closely with the central government to secure the necessary taxi quota, and expand support and improvement measures to enhance transportation convenience for citizens."
