Busan Appoints Lee Seyong as New Director of Busan Medical Center
A Medical Professional with Over 30 Years of Experience in Public and Private Healthcare Institutions
The city of Busan has appointed Lee Seyong, former head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, as the 19th Director of the Busan Medical Center. His term will begin on August 11, 2025, and will last for three years.
Lee Seyong, the newly appointed director, worked at Busan Medical Center for 21 years, combining both clinical practice and hospital management. During his tenure as Chief Medical Officer, he was involved in hospital operations, and subsequently gained further experience at private medical institutions.
Director Lee plans to leverage his extensive experience in the medical field and his philosophy of public healthcare to address the management difficulties and staffing issues currently facing Busan Medical Center. On July 30, 2025, at a personnel hearing held by the Busan Metropolitan Council, he was deemed "qualified" after a review of his management skills, policy execution capabilities, and future vision.
Director Lee stated, "Public healthcare is about taking responsibility for areas that are difficult for the private sector to handle," adding, "I will establish Busan Medical Center's identity as an 'acute care-focused hospital' responsible for critical, emergency, and essential medical services, prioritize restoring the hospital's medical standards, and make it the first choice for citizens."

Busan Mayor Park Hyungjun said, "Busan Medical Center has played a key role in strengthening public health services, supporting medical care for vulnerable groups, and preventing and responding to infectious diseases," and urged, "As the head of a public healthcare institution responsible for protecting the lives and health of citizens, please approach your role with a strong sense of duty and responsibility."
