Samjong KPMG Revamps Introductory Audit Committee Education Content
Reflecting Latest Issues Such as Cybersecurity and AI Governance
Samjong KPMG announced on August 11 that it has revamped the introductory curriculum of its Audit Committee education program to enhance the understanding of duties and strengthen the practical capabilities of auditors and audit committee members.
The updated program is based on the revised edition of the "Audit Committee Handbook" published by the Samjong KPMG Audit Committee Institute. It covers essential supervisory duties that auditors and audit committee members must be familiar with to perform their roles, including laws and regulations, roles and responsibilities, internal controls, and financial reporting systems.
In particular, the new curriculum has been significantly strengthened with practical, hands-on content that can be closely applied to real corporate environments. It includes newly added lectures on major issues currently facing audit committees, such as ESG (environmental, social, and governance) oversight and the role of the audit committee, responses to cybersecurity risks, and the establishment of governance systems following the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
The introductory course is available via Samjong KPMG’s online audit committee education platform, "Samjong KPMG Academy," and can be accessed on both PC and mobile applications. It is offered free of charge to members. Additionally, participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion as proof of their audit committee education record.
Samjong KPMG plans to continue providing effective, expertise-driven educational content by reflecting changes in the audit committee environment and revisions to corporate governance regulations.
Samjong KPMG stated, "This content was jointly developed by Samjong KPMG’s accounting, tax, and risk experts, together with professors from leading domestic universities," adding, "We expect that the balanced curriculum, which encompasses both practical and theoretical aspects, will provide substantial support for new auditors and audit committee members in effectively fulfilling their roles."
Meanwhile, Samjong KPMG established the "Audit Committee Institute (ACI)" in 2015, becoming the first accounting firm in Korea to do so, in order to promote the audit committee system and enhance audit functions. In the same year, it published the first edition of the "Audit Committee Handbook," and this year, after review by the ACI advisory faculty, released the fourth revised edition. Furthermore, in October, Samjong KPMG plans to distribute a physical "Audit Committee Calendar," which summarizes the annual key tasks of auditors and audit committee members, to those who apply in advance via the ACI KakaoTalk channel.
