Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, announced this in a written briefing on the same day. The regions newly designated as special disaster zones are those that suffered significant damage from the nationwide heavy rainfall between July 16 and 20. This measure follows the initial designation of six severely affected cities and counties as special disaster zones on the 22nd.
Spokesperson Kang explained, "This time, the period for reporting damages was extended as much as possible until yesterday, August 5, to ensure that all damages were thoroughly recorded. In addition, the special disaster zone designation was subdivided down to the town, township, and neighborhood level in order to provide comprehensive support to all areas affected by the heavy rain."
