On this day, Seongnam City and the committee visited the Senior Industry Innovation Center located in Yatap-dong, Bundang-gu, and held a roundtable with resident companies including Pixello, NTB, Emma Healthcare, and Lifefriend. They shared on-site challenges and opinions on institutional improvements.
This roundtable was organized in line with the government's Age-Tech (digital-based technology supporting the independence and health of older adults) development strategy. It served as an opportunity to share the center's major business activities and to discuss practical cooperation measures between the central government and local governments.
Seongnam City is set to become a super-aged society in 2025, with the proportion of elderly residents reaching approximately 18%. The city is implementing a range of policies to address an aging society, including creating jobs for seniors, bridging the digital divide, and expanding health and welfare services. In particular, the city is focusing on building an Age-Tech industry ecosystem and revitalizing the silver economy centered around the Senior Industry Innovation Center, while continuously strengthening public-private cooperation systems.
Im Jongcheol, Vice Mayor of Seongnam City, stated, "Seongnam City is positioning the Age-Tech industry as a core pillar in responding to an aging society, and is accelerating efforts to vitalize the silver economy based on the Senior Industry Innovation Center. We will continue to closely cooperate with the central government to become a leading city in the silver economy based on the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
Vice Chair Joo Hyunghwan remarked, "The Seongnam Senior Industry Innovation Center is an excellent example and a key infrastructure for Age-Tech industry demonstration, where technology verification, commercialization, and networking are concentrated. The government will also foster the Age-Tech industry as a national growth engine by supporting the entire cycle, including technology investment, regulatory improvement, and the creation of a startup ecosystem."
Meanwhile, the Seongnam Senior Industry Innovation Center, established in 2012 as the nation's first hub for the senior-friendly industry, supports the entire cycle of the Age-Tech industry, including product verification, testing and certification, usability evaluation, business support, and living lab operations. In 2018, it was certified as an internationally accredited testing institution (KOLAS) by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, establishing itself as a specialized institution with technological reliability and a solid demonstration foundation.
