Kim Byungki Requests Choo Mi-ae to Chair Legislation and Judiciary Committee, Citing Expertise in Prosecutorial Reform
Democratic Party Supreme Council Meeting Held on August 6
Kim Byungki, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "I have asked Representative Choo Mi-ae to take on the position of chairperson of the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee."
At the Supreme Council meeting of the Democratic Party held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on August 6, Kim said, "Lee Choonseok resigned from both the party and the position of Legislation and Judiciary Committee chairperson," and conveyed this request. He added, "Given the extraordinary and urgent circumstances, we have departed from the usual method of selecting standing committee chairs and have asked someone who can most skillfully lead prosecutorial reform."
He also pledged to ensure the smooth passage of key bills that failed to pass due to the People Power Party's filibuster, aiming for their approval in the National Assembly plenary session. Kim said, "Yesterday, the Democratic Party and the four opposition parties passed the Broadcasting Act amendment. Although the filibuster by the People Power Party delayed it by a day, it is a significant achievement as it signals the normalization of public broadcasting."
He continued, "The People Power Party is not processing legislation but is blocking reform," criticizing, "They must bear heavy responsibility."
