Nowon-gu Brings Music to Neighborhoods with "Traveling Performance" Series
Everywhere Becomes a Stage: Neighborhoods, Parks, and District Office
Eight Performances Scheduled Until November
Nowon-gu in Seoul (Mayor Oh Seungrok) is officially launching the "Traveling Performance" series, which expands classical and traditional Korean music performances both within and outside local neighborhoods. The initiative aims to make culture accessible close to home for everyone, not just in concert halls or traditional music venues, but also in everyday spaces such as apartment complexes, parking lots, parks, and the district office.
The "Traveling Orchestra" brings classical performances to residents' living spaces, such as apartment basketball courts and parking lots within residential complexes. This allows district residents who may find it difficult to visit performance venues due to busy schedules to enjoy music without barriers. The performances are open to all without the need for prior registration.
The performance schedule is as follows: August 23 (Saturday) at Jangseok Church in Wolgye-dong; September 6 (Saturday) at the basketball court in front of Building 19, Miryung Apartments in Wolgye-dong; October 9 (Thursday) at the parking lot inside Jugong 5 Complex in Junggye-dong; and October 12 (Sunday) on the car-free street between Kumho, Hanshin 1-3, and Sindonga apartment complexes in Sanggye-dong.
At the "Traveling Sinmyeong Madang," master Kim Deoksu, a renowned Samulnori artist, will make a special appearance, adding to the excitement of traditional performances with gilnori (street parade), Samdo Nongak rhythms, pungmul pan-gut, and tightrope walking. The event will tour four locations: October 25 (Saturday) at Danggogae Neighborhood Park; October 26 (Sunday) at Biseokgol Neighborhood Park; November 1 (Saturday) at Sanggye Neighborhood Park; and November 2 (Sunday) at Junggye Neighborhood Park.
In addition, the lobby of Nowon-gu Office will host the "Traveling Recital" during lunchtime. On the 6th, the Nowon-gu Youth Symphony Orchestra, composed of 34 members, will perform masterpieces by Schumann, Vivaldi, and Bruckner, demonstrating that public office spaces can serve as platforms for cultural exchange as well as administrative work.

Oh Seungrok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, "Culture should not be something enjoyed only on special days or in special places, but something that naturally permeates daily life. We will actively support making Nowon a place where culture can be enjoyed anywhere, whether it be the park in front of your house, apartment complexes, or the district office lobby."
