The '2025 10th UCLG ASPAC Goyang Congress' is a significant event hosted by a local government in Korea, with the theme 'Sustainable Global Self-Sufficient Cities and Regions for the Future.' It is expected to bring together over 500 representatives from more than 220 local governments across 22 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
The congress will be held from September 24 to 26 at KINTEX and throughout Goyang City, featuring a variety of programs including opening and closing ceremonies, a main forum, thematic committee meetings, and executive board meetings. In particular, the international competition is designed as a leading participatory event where citizens can communicate with the world and showcase their creativity.
The photography competition is open to anyone worldwide, and both the photo description and the artist introduction must be submitted in English.
The essay competition targets youth and journalists, while the startup pitching competition is open to startups or prospective startup teams from the Asia-Pacific region.
All categories must address either 'Sustainable Global Self-Sufficient Cities and Regions for the Future' or 'Innovation in the Future of Regions' as their theme. Prize money varies by category, ranging from USD 200 to a maximum of USD 3,000.
The city expects that this competition will not only expand exchanges with the international community but also enhance the city's image and foster global sensibility among citizens. In particular, the startup pitching category is anticipated to serve as a valuable platform for young entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative capabilities on the international stage. The photography and essay categories will be operated as a public communication space where citizens can envision the city's future together, based on creative imagination and sensibility.
