Yangsan City Conducts Emergency Safety Inspection to Prevent Secondary Damage After Heavy Rainfall
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam conducted an emergency safety inspection from July 28 to 30 on major facilities where secondary damage was feared due to the heavy rainfall that occurred from July 16 to 20.
The inspection targeted a total of 11 public facilities, including bridges, retaining walls, and cut slopes, where damage such as river overflow, erosion of foundation soil, and rainwater infiltration had occurred or was likely to occur due to the heavy rainfall.
Yangsan City, led by the Department of Civil Safety, carried out the inspection together with the departments responsible for each facility. To ensure the reliability and accuracy of the inspection, the process was conducted systematically and thoroughly in cooperation with private sector experts.
As a result of the inspection, minor issues were found at 6 out of the 11 facilities, but there were no serious hazards that required usage restrictions or immediate emergency measures. However, as some areas requiring repair or reinforcement, such as partial damage to bridge railings, were identified, the city plans to establish separate repair plans and promptly carry out the necessary work on these facilities.
This inspection served as an important opportunity to continuously monitor the safety status of facilities after the heavy rainfall and to strengthen preventive measures in preparation for disasters.
Yangsan City plans to continue cooperating with relevant departments to ensure a swift and systematic response in the event of similar situations in the future.
A city official stated, "We conducted this emergency inspection promptly to minimize unexpected damage caused by the heavy rainfall and to ensure the safety of citizens," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to create a city environment where everyone can live with peace of mind through thorough facility management and rapid response."
