Police Arrest Hampyeong-gun Civil Servant Caught Fleeing After Refusing Breathalyzer Test
A civil servant from Hampyeong-gun, South Jeolla Province, was arrested in the act after refusing a police request for a breathalyzer test and fleeing the scene.
On August 1, the Gwangju Seobu Police Station detained and questioned a 35-year-old Hampyeong-gun government employee, identified as A, on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act. A is accused of refusing a police request for a breathalyzer test three times between 12:22 a.m. and 12:40 a.m. on a road in the Sangmu district of Seo-gu, Gwangju, on the same day.
Earlier, the vehicle driven by A was swerving across lanes, prompting a citizen, who found this suspicious, to report a suspected case of drunk driving. When police arrived, A parked the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.
A, who did not reveal any personal information, was arrested at the scene. During subsequent police questioning, it was revealed that A is a government employee.
