The Korea Tourism Organization and the Korea Creative Content Agency have agreed to join forces to ensure the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, the world's first expo themed around 'islands,' and to promote island tourism.
According to the Organizing Committee for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo (hereinafter referred to as the 'Committee') on August 1, the Committee, the Korea Tourism Organization, and the Korea Creative Content Agency signed a business agreement at the Yeosu City Hall situation room on the morning of July 31.

View original imageThe signing ceremony was attended by Jeong Kimyeong, Mayor of Yeosu and Chairman of the Expo Organizing Committee, Seo Youngchung, Acting President of the Korea Tourism Organization, and Yoo Hyunseok, Acting President of the Korea Creative Content Agency.
In particular, National Assembly member Cho Gyeweon (Yeosu-eul, Jeonnam), a member of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, was present at the event and is known to have played a key role in encouraging the participation of both organizations and supporting the successful conclusion of the agreement.
Through this agreement, the three organizations have pledged to actively collaborate not only on domestic and international promotion and marketing activities for the Island Expo, but also on 'the development of island and marine tourism products and attracting visitors,' 'the creation of convergence content utilizing island cultural resources,' and 'support for the development of the tourism industry and the fostering of the content industry.' In addition, a working-level council will be established to specify the contents of the agreement and discuss concrete implementation plans for the collaborative projects.
With the two leading public institutions in tourism and content promising support for the Island Expo, expectations are rising not only for the successful hosting of the event but also for new opportunities in the island and marine tourism sectors.
With just over 400 days remaining until the opening of the Island Expo, the Committee plans to accelerate efforts to create a buzz for the event by launching the joint development of island tourism products, attracting participating countries both domestically and internationally, holding the D-365 event, and commencing advance ticket sales.
