Lee Sangil: "We Will Continue to Improve the App's Features"
On July 29, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has added a new "Barefoot Walking Trail" feature to its city-developed walking app, "Georeoyong."
The city has added a total of nine barefoot trails, with three in each district?Cheoin, Giheung, and Suji?so that app users can easily find and walk these paths. Users who complete a walk on any of these barefoot trails will receive 20 City Points.
The barefoot walking trails, for which location and related information are provided, are as follows: In Cheoin-gu, the trails are Samga Sports Park, Administrative Town Barefoot Walking Trail, and Beonam Neighborhood Park. In Giheung-gu, the new trails are Beophwa Barefoot Trail, Gugal Lespia Barefoot Trail, and Mangol Neighborhood Park. In Suji-gu, information is available for Gogi Neighborhood Park, Sinbong Sports Park, and Sanghyeon Neighborhood Park.
The city explained that these walking trails are located in easily accessible urban parks, making them convenient for daily use. Citizens using the app can track the distance they have walked and the calories they have burned, helping them manage their health.
"Georeoyong" provides customized walking route information based on the user's age and health status. Users aged 65 and older can accumulate City Points by walking more than 5,000 steps, while those under 65 must walk 8,000 steps to earn points. The maximum number of points that can be accumulated in a month is 3,000. The accumulated points can be converted to City Points and then exchanged for Yongin Y-Pay, the local currency.
According to the city, an average of 4,240 people use the "Georeoyong" app each day, walking an average of 3,655 steps (approximately 2.42 km). The total accumulated walking points amount to 24.76 million won (with 5.83 million won converted to City Points).
