Beware of Voice Phishing Impersonating Public Officials
Geumsan County Urges Verification for Purchase Requests by Phone or Text, Advance Payments, and Personal Account Transactions
Recently, there has been a case of voice phishing in the Geumsan area involving impersonation of public officials using forged official documents, prompting the need for caution.
Upon identifying such attempts, Geumsan County immediately requested an investigation from the Geumsan Police Station and notified local small business owners, including agricultural chemical dealers, to inform them of the situation and urge vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the region.
In particular, the county emphasized that when ordering agricultural supplies, purchase requests are not made by phone or text message.
Additionally, if someone requests an advance payment or asks for financial transactions to be made to a personal account, it is necessary to immediately report it to the local police station or verify with the relevant public office.
Song Geunpil, an official from the Agricultural Policy Division, stated, "As there have been attempts at voice phishing involving impersonation of public officials, caution is required," and added, "If you encounter similar cases, please make sure to verify with the relevant department."
