Meeting with Busan Metropolitan Office of Education
"Strengthening the Foundation of Youth Science Culture"
The Busan Institute for Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu) and the Busan-Ulsan Regional Association of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (BuuLgwachong) held a meeting on the 24th with Kim Seokjun, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, to discuss ways to expand youth science culture experience programs and foster future talent through collaborative efforts.
The meeting was attended by Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, Jin Sungho, President of BuuLgwachong (Professor of Chemistry Education at Pusan National University), and other local science and technology leaders. The participants exchanged views on the importance of nurturing creative and convergent talent in the era of digital transformation, as well as the need to expand the foundation of science culture to support this goal.
The main agenda items included the expansion of youth science culture experience programs such as the "Sharing Science Special Lecture," which BuuLgwachong has conducted more than 800 times at middle and high schools since 2012, and the promotion of joint projects by local science and technology organizations.
Jin Sungho stated, "Science and technology is not just the domain of experts; it is a part of everyday culture that all citizens should experience," and added, "Together with the Office of Education and BISTEP, we will develop a variety of field-oriented programs to promote the spread of science culture."
Kim Youngbu emphasized, "Expanding the foundation of science culture is an essential task for nurturing future talent led by the region," and continued, "We will create a sustainable ecosystem based on collaborative channels with various organizations such as BuuLgwachong."
BISTEP is the dedicated agency of Busan City responsible for R&D-based science and technology policy and the promotion of higher education. It is strengthening its cooperative system with organizations such as BuuLgwachong, the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Korean Federation of Women in Science and Technology Associations, and the Southeast Regional Headquarters of the Korean Scientists and Engineers Association. On August 11, it plans to hold the "Busan Science and Technology Colloquium" to provide a platform for policy communication.
