View original imageOn July 24, the Gwangju Eastern Fire Station announced that it would conduct firefighting support activities in response to the ongoing heatwave.
This support activity is being carried out as a proactive response to protect those vulnerable to heatwaves, as temperatures are expected to remain higher than average and the extreme heat is anticipated to continue for an extended period.
The firefighting support activities will include spraying water in traditional markets and areas with a high concentration of heatwave-vulnerable individuals to prevent the urban heat island effect, as well as operating heatwave emergency response teams to prepare for the transport of heat-related patients.
When local governments request water supply due to the operation of water-spraying vehicles, firefighting water facilities (such as fire hydrants) cannot be used independently. Instead, support will be provided if a prior inquiry call is made to the nearby 119 Safety Center and a visit is made to request water supply.
Kim Youngil, Chief of the Eastern Fire Station, stated, "I urge active firefighting support activities to protect the lives and property of the public," and added, "We will support proactive heatwave response activities within the scope that does not interfere with firefighting operations."
